Connect the wiring terminals used in the distribution box to the distribution box

Connect phase wires to breaker terminals, neutral wires to the neutral bar, and earth wires to the earth bar, following proper safety and wiring standards.

Safety First

Before starting, ensure the power supply is completely turned off and verify with a non-contact voltage tester. Wear insulating gloves, safety glasses, and slip-resistant shoes to prevent electric shock. Only use wires, terminals, and tools that meet electrical specifications .

Step-by-Step Wiring Procedure

  1. Prepare the Wires: Strip the insulation to expose about 3/4 inch of copper. Bend the wire slightly clockwise to fit snugly under terminal screws .

  2. Connect the Main Power: Attach the incoming live (phase) wire, usually brown or red, to the main terminal or main MCB input. Connect the neutral wire to the neutral bar and the earth wire to the earth bar .

  3. Install Circuit Breakers: Snap the breakers onto the hot bus bars. For single-pole MCBs, connect only the phase wire; for double-pole MCBs, connect both phase and neutral wires from the RCCB output .

  4. Connect Load Wires: Connect the phase wire of each load to the output terminal of its respective breaker. Connect neutral wires to the neutral bar and earth wires to the earth bar. Ensure each wire is tightened properly and not doubled up on a single terminal .

  5. Arrange Wires Neatly: Use zip ties to bundle wires by circuit type (lighting, outlets, appliances). Leave space for heat dissipation and avoid contact with sharp edges .

  6. Final Checks: Test insulation resistance and circuit continuity with a multimeter. Verify that breakers and fuses match the rated current and voltage. Ensure all connections are secure and there are no short circuits .

Grounding and Earthing

Connect all ground wires to a single earth bar and, if possible, run a main earth wire to the water main or earth pit. Never bond neutral and ground outside the main panel .

Tips

  • Torque terminal screws to manufacturer specifications (usually 20–25 in-lbs) to avoid loose connections or cracking plastic .
  • Label each wire for easy identification and future maintenance .
  • After restoring power, check each circuit; if a breaker trips immediately, isolate and troubleshoot the affected branch .
